Mac Miller tragically passed away on September 7th 2018. May he rest in peace and his music out live him for many years to come. On his GO:OD AM albums second track ‘Brand Name’ he rapped “I’m hoping not to join the 27 club“, which he was 4 months short of while passing away at 26 years old. Even if against his wishes, he will be an honorable inductee without a doubt.
This week marks the release of Mac Millers new album Swimming. The project is being called his most mature work yet, and tends to have him singing more than rapping. Previously The Divine Feminine came out in 2016, while Mac Miller was dating Ariana Grande, who was even featured on a song. There were many references to love and relationships on the project.
Prior to The Divine Feminine, Miller was not publicly involved with any women, and his music tended to be more energetic, referencing partying and drugs.
Miller and Ariana Grande dated until breaking up in 2018, and Miller was arrested for a DUI in his G wagon a couple days after the news broke. Very shortly after that it was revealed that Ariana Grande was dating comedian Pete Davidson, they announced their engagement a couple months after dating.
Still, it seems that he has gotten to a better point in his life, commenting on his ex, Miller says “I’ve cared about her for a long time as a person. He also had nothing but positive comments about her new engagement, “I am genuinely happy that that’s how she moved. That’s good for her. Go, go, keep going! As she should. I’m just being real. That’s good. Now I have space for me. And that’s great too.”
Although he may be happy for his ex, he clearly cared dearly for her. She’s clearly referenced in his new album.
In my own way, just feel like living / Some ultimate reality / And I was just drowning, but now I’m swimming / Do stressful workouts to relief / Yeah, all the thing I do / And spend a little time in her / What I won’t tell you
The 26 year old star has been trying to stay out of the spotlight. According to a Rolling Stones interview, he said that he’s been off drugs and working out every day. All in all, it seems like Miller has been doing much better, but took the high road by staying out of the spotlight while he worked on himself. Listen to Swimming below.
A few days after Millers new album Swimming came out, his ex-girlfriends new fiancé Pete Davidson had an strange cameo in the rapper Machine Gun Kellys new music video.
